Fundamental rights impact assessment (FRIA)
A fundamental rights impact assessment (FRIA) is an EU AI Act requirement for certain deployers of high-risk AI to assess the system's impact on people's rights before use.
It is the rights-focused cousin of a data protection impact assessment, aimed at whom the system could harm and how. For affected public and essential-service uses, it is a precondition to going live, not a formality.
