Terms and Conditions
1. About these Terms
The Boring CISO (the "Site") is operated by Ekya Konnect Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15769563 ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Site and everything on it. By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. Acceptance
You accept these Terms by accessing, browsing, or otherwise using the Site. No account or registration is required to read The Boring CISO, and we do not charge you to read it. Your continued use of the Site confirms your acceptance of these Terms as they stand at the time.
3. Definitions
- "Content" means the articles, glossary entries, definitions, images, and any other material we publish on the Site.
- "Site" means the website at https://theboringciso.com and its subpages.
- "You" means anyone who accesses or uses the Site.
4. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how the Site works. When we do, we will update the version number and effective date above. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
5. Educational purpose: no professional advice
The Content is general educational information about cybersecurity, security leadership, and governance. It is not legal, regulatory, technical, financial, or commercial advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a suitably qualified professional who understands your specific circumstances.
We do not guarantee that you will achieve any particular objective or outcome (including passing any exam, obtaining any certification, or reaching any particular security posture) by relying on the Content. You are responsible for any decisions you make and any action you take based on what you read here. Always confirm anything that matters with qualified counsel before acting on it.
6. Acceptable use
When using the Site, you agree that you will not:
- use the Site for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose;
- attempt to disrupt, damage, overload, or otherwise interfere with the Site or its infrastructure;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site, its servers, or any connected systems;
- scrape, harvest, or systematically extract the Content by automated means, or use it to train any model or dataset, without our prior written permission; or
- use the Site in any way that infringes the rights of, or restricts or inhibits the use of the Site by, anyone else.
7. Intellectual property
All Content on the Site is owned by Ekya Konnect Limited or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. You may read, link to, and quote short extracts of the Content for personal, non-commercial use, provided you credit The Boring CISO and do not misrepresent it.
You may not copy, reproduce, republish, redistribute, sell, or otherwise exploit the Content, in whole or in substantial part, without our prior written permission. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of the Content to you.
8. Sponsored content and affiliate links
Some Content may be sponsored, and some links on the Site may be affiliate links. Where Content is sponsored, we will label and disclose it clearly. Sponsorship does not change our editorial judgment. We say what we think, and any sponsor's involvement is disclosed and kept separate from our assessment.
Where a link is an affiliate link, we may earn a commission if you buy something through it, at no additional cost to you. We only include such links where they are relevant, and their presence does not constitute an endorsement beyond what the Content itself states.
9. Third-party links
The Site may link to third-party websites, tools, or resources. We provide these links for convenience and information only. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party site, and a link does not imply that we endorse it. Your use of any third-party site is at your own risk and subject to that site's own terms.
10. Availability
We aim to keep the Site available and up to date, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free. We may suspend, withdraw, or restrict all or part of the Site, for maintenance or any other reason, without notice and without liability to you. We may also change or remove any Content at any time.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The Site and the Content are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, conditions, and representations (whether express or implied) including any implied warranties as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Site or the Content.
Because the Site is provided to you free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Site is limited to the minimum amount permitted by law.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales.
13. Privacy
Any personal data we collect through the Site is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and with applicable data-protection law, including the UK GDPR. Our Privacy Policy forms part of your use of the Site alongside these Terms.
14. Events outside our control
We are not liable for any failure or delay in operating the Site that is caused by events outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to failures of the internet or hosting providers, power or telecommunications failures, industrial action, or acts of government, epidemic, or pandemic.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or your use of the Site, are governed by the law of England and Wales. You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim.
16. Newsletter
We offer an optional email newsletter. Subscribing is free and entirely your choice, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email we send. When you subscribe, you agree to provide accurate details and to subscribe only an email address you are entitled to use.
Anything we send in the newsletter is provided on the same basis as the rest of the Content: it is general educational information and not professional advice (see section 5). Where any newsletter message is sponsored or contains affiliate links, we disclose that in the same way as on the Site (see section 8).
Our newsletter is delivered for us by a third-party provider. The signup page is hosted by that provider and is subject to its own terms (see section 9), and any personal data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
